CHEM 2340 Introduction to Medicinal Chemistry
This course will study the structure and function of drug targets such as receptors, enzymes, and nucleic acids; the interaction between drugs and their molecular targets; quantitative structure activity relationships (QSAR), as well as drug absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion. Students will learn about the general principles of drug discovery, design, and development. Specific topics in modern medicinal chemistry will cover a varied selection - antibacterial, antiviral, anticancer, cholinergic, cardiovascular agents, etc. Special sections on medicinal plants and the societal implications of the current prescription drug system are also included.
