EDUC 3367 Elementary Mathematics for Education

This course prepares pre-service teachers to develop a deep understanding of elementary mathematics content. Emphasis is placed on the development, use, and representation of numbers and number systems, including whole-number place value, basic operations, fractions, decimals, percents, proportional reasoning, integers, exponents, and real numbers. The course also addresses measurement, geometric concepts, data analysis, statistics, and probability. Instruction focuses on problem solving that promotes conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, and real-world application. Pre-service teachers will learn to model and solve elementary mathematics problems using multiple strategies and representations. The course integrates the use of manipulatives and instructional technology as essential tools for supporting mathematical understanding at the elementary level. Critical thinking, reasoning, and effective mathematical communication are emphasized throughout the course.
